Haunts and Habitats

 News from Grove Studio

Grove Studio is evolving with new projects and items made in house.
The facilities for screen printing are up and running and we have a variety of hand printed products for interiors, gifts, cards and clothing.
Lou and Noel are collaborating on refurbishing retro furniture with our contemporary hand printed fabrics.

Noel is launching Haunts and Habitats, a collection of 4 wallpapers and a block printed fabric all printed at Grove Studio.

Our first venture into hand printing, the collection is inspired by a love of the British countryside and some of its more mysterious and elusive inhabitants. It depicts the Barn Owl, Hares and Moths which all possess intriguing characteristics and figure in many myths and legendary stories.
Unfortunately all three creatures are threatened by habitat loss and  the encroachment of urban development.

The collection evolved from sources such as the hand drawn illustrations found in the Observer series of pocket nature guides and a  book jacket depicting the haunts of moths, which also inspire  some of the colour ways. This gives the papers both a retro feel and a timeless charm suitable for both traditional and contemporary interiors.

I love the textural appearance of hand printing and the papers combine both screen and lino block printing to create a unique surface quality which cannot be easily reproduced by digital methods. Each printing is variable and and colours may be adapted to customer order making a truly bespoke product.

Part of the concept of the collection is that it can be interactive due to the printing methods. Moths can be individually customised by creating new stamps to fill the cartouches. We are working on fungi at the moment but are open to suggestions!

Starting in February a new programme of workshops where you can come and make your own wallpapers or fabric prints.
